Press it and press Select Your Own Map. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will open the map with a large box. Move it around and zoom out as far as you like to capture the area. It will tell you how much storage you&#8217;ll need to use. (Almost the entire state of Maine was only 140mb). Download this and you&#8217;ll have it available to you offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/peroty.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Offline-map-selection-1-512x1024.png?resize=256%2C512&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Select area of map to download offline, with the state of Maine selected.\" class=\"wp-image-5527\" width=\"256\" height=\"512\"\/><figcaption>Zoom out for a larger area.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As a rule, I do this with my home area, just in case I&#8217;m ever in a situation where I need it. Maps will update your offline information every month automatically, with options to do so more frequently, or remove the data entirely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It won&#8217;t give you the full Maps experience, but you can search for specific places like &#8220;Hannaford&#8221; (a local grocery store) or &#8220;Acadia National Park&#8221; and you&#8217;ll be given turn-by-turn navigation. It worked flawlessly for the entire week we were without non-roaming cell phone reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" height=\"595\" width=\"629\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/peroty.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Maine-Offline-1024x969.png?resize=629%2C595\" alt=\"The state of Maine selected for offline use, using 149MB and expiring in a month unless updated.\" class=\"wp-image-5529\"\/><figcaption>Maine, Offline!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As I lack even the most basic sense of direction, this saved me and got me all over the state without issue.
